The Visa/Mastercard $5.5 billion settlement stems from a class-action lawsuit filed by merchants alleging anticompetitive practices related to swipe fees. The settlement resolves claims that Visa and Mastercard engaged in price-fixing, ultimately leading to a compensation fund for affected merchants.
The disbursement from the settlement fund will be determined by your actual or estimated interchange fees linked to Visa and Mastercard transactions (between you and your customers) occurring from January 1, 2004, through January 25, 2019. The amount received by each Authorized Claimant is contingent upon the available funds to fulfill all claims, the aggregate value of valid claims submitted, expenses associated with class administration and notice, applicable taxes on the settlement fund and any related tax costs, attorneys' fees and expenses, and monetary awards to the Rule 23(b)(3) Class Plaintiffs for their representation of merchants in MDL 1720, leading to the approval of the Class Settlement Agreement by the Court.
Payments are anticipated to be issued post the conclusion of the Claims Period on May 31, 2024. As the pro rata distribution relies on the completion and review of all filed Claims, along with the final approval of amounts by the Court, the exact timeline for disbursements remains unknown. Your patience is appreciated during this process.
